Identifying breast cancer patients receiving autologous fat grafting in the Greater Plains Collaborative

Autologous fat grafting or lipofilling has recently emerged as a common adjunct to breast cancer reconstruction surgery because it its positive cosmetic and tissue healing effects. Although the short-term safety of AFG in breast cancer patients was recently established, the oncologic potential of AFG is unclear as nearly all studies are case series with follow-up periods too brief for adequate assessment of breast cancer recurrence risk. Our objective is to generate essential preliminary data for a large scale cohort study of the oncologic safety of AFG that we will propose to conduct within the 10 medical centers of the Greater Plains Collaborative.
